In autumn, the fall colors contrast magically with the red rocks, while in spring the wildflowers enchant with their fleeting beauty. Picnic lunch. Lodging.

We continue to our hotel in Lake Powell. With a little luck, we have a beautiful sunset. Picnic lunch. Overnight.

Our hotel is located in the quiet town of Green River. Picnic lunch. Lodging.

Day 10 Canyolands National Park - Monument Valley - Chinle - 350 km - MP
Breakfast. We continue our journey south to the Grand Canyon. Arrival at Monument Valley. The local tribe offers guided tours by jeep, allowing you to discover the world of nomadic peoples who inhabit this area (optional visit). Then departure to Chinle, the small Navajo settlement in Canyon de Chelly National Monument. We stay in the historic trading post of 1896 built with adobe bricks. Picnic lunch. Overnight.
Day 11 Chinle (Canyon de Chelly) - PM
Breakfast. Canyon de Chelly is a very special place. This canyon has been inhabited for over 4000 years. The Anasazi lived in this canyon which supported a thriving farming community. The ancient inhabitants built their settlements on the canyon cliffs to protect themselves from enemies. The Navajo arrived in the area around 1400, proclaiming "Spider Rock" to be the most sacred place in their religion. The Navajos prospered in the valley until the arrival of the Europeans. After a protracted battle, Kit Carson accepted the largest surrender in U.S. history in 1864, when 8,000 Navajos surrendered. After being imprisoned at Fort Sumner, the Navajo returned to their beloved and sacred canyon to reestablish their farms and way of life. Today the Navajo continue to live on their farms, accessible only by 4×4 or on foot. Due to the culturally sensitive nature, tours are only allowed with local guides. We descend into the canyon on a bare rock trail passing farms, 1000 year old rock art panels, 800 year old cliff dwellings, and exploring the magic and silence of the canyons (some trails require creek crossings, wear appropriate footwear). Picnic lunch. Lodging.
Day 12 Chinle - Grand Canyon - 350 Km - MP
Breakfast. The White House ruin is a remarkable cliff dwelling built into the canyon walls in Canyon de Chelly. We hike into the canyon to marvel at the 800-year-old cliff-hanging settlement. Our next destination: the Grand Canyon. With a little luck we enjoy an incredible sunset on the rim of the canyon. Picnic lunch. Overnight.
Day 13 Grand Canyon - MP
Breakfast. We have all day to spend in this incredible place. The Grand Canyon is a United Nations (UNESCO) World Heritage Site and although many tourists visit the area few are seen on the trails. If you prefer, you can hike the Canyon to Plateau Point or hike the West Rim, where incredible views await. (Hiking in the National Park is self-guided due to permit regulations). There will be time to enjoy an unforgettable sunset. Picnic lunch. Lodging.
* Due to park regulations, all hikes are self-guided within the Grand Canyon National Park.
